Kids & Money – Lauren Greenfield

December 2, 2008

Here’s a trailer from the film Kids & Money which was produced by Lauren Greenfield. Lauren has done some great work to critical acclaim on areas including Youth Culture, Gender, Body image, eating disorders and general popular culture.

At rentoid – the truth is we have some of these High end Rockstar items for rent, and I wonder if we are exacerbating the situation….  or helping people save money?

Maybe some savvy kids will use the site to start a mini entreprenurial business?

At a minimum I hope we are at least giving people the option for a smarter allocation of their scarce resources.

Critical Mass – Bike Ride

November 30, 2008

Critical Mass is a bike ride which happens in cities around the world for a whole heap of good reasons you can see by clicking here, or hereWords from there website:

“CM is intended to be a celebration, not an opportunity to cause trouble. Those who want to try to tie up traffic as much as possible and be confrontational with motorists are missing the point. We can assert our right to the road without being rude about it. Focus on the ride, not on the cars that also happen to be on the road.”

Here’s some photos a rentoid team member snapped on Friday in the Melbourne CBD as the cyclists zoomed by.

Rentoid is stoked that we have a city of people with the initiative to get this eco meme happening. Oh, and if you need to rent a bike for the next ride, we’ve got plenty you can see by clicking here…

November 26, 2008

You do the math

November 6, 2008

Below is a photo of two items which are regular rental items: A family car vs a paint spray gun.

car-vs-spray-gun

We don’t have to be a maths genious to work out that it’s a far better return on investment renting out the spray gun. It’s a wopping 50% Return on Investment…. versus a too small to calculate return on investment for the car.

The point is the renter is still getting a massive benefit in renting out the Spray gun even though ther ROI is very high for the owner who is renting it out.

The benefits to the person who rents the spray gun instead of buying it include:

– Still saves 50% of the cash to buy one

– Doesn’t have to store it and let it gather dust

– It’s better for the environment to have one less spray gun

– They get to meet someone in their local area

– Both parties win financially.

So the point to all you rentoiders out there is. Put some stuff up there to rent and you’ll be surprised at the returns on investment you can get. Some are very, very good. And everyone still wins.  It’d be worth checking out the prices to buy some items and do a mini entrpreneurial project.

And of course if you need any help and ideas on how to do it call us any time

Cheers, rentoid team.

We all know that not only buying, but selling a house is a costly business. With all the garden landscaping, cleaning, wanting everything nice before your open day or auction. Why not rent everything from www.rentoid.com ?

Rent a nice lounge suite to brighten up your loungeroom, fairy lights to make your garden attractive in the evening (and lets face it alot of people drive around after dinner looking for houses for sale). Imagine the nice photo taken at dusk with those nice lights on making your home stand out. Also, rent art for the walls, and nice potted plants for each room. Presentation is everything. Reducing hospital boredom

September 22, 2008

Post by OrangeGirl

Is someone you know unfortunate enough to be stuck in hospital?

Jump onto rentoid and rent them a portable DVD player, some DVD‘s, a handheld games console, books, or even a portable CD player to help pass the time. The items will be very much appreciated as we all know how much fun hospitals are dont we 😉 And renting something is much more enviromentally sound than buying flowers that will only be thrown in the bin a few days later.

C’mon, give something to your loved one that not only will keep then entertained while recovering and stimulate their mind instead of looking at four walls. Most of all it shows you are thinking of them and care about their sanity. And who knows, one day you might be stuck in bed and yor friend will come to the rescue with items from www.rentoid.com

Fathers day ideas

August 27, 2008

With fathers day coming up why not rent your Dad a motorbike for the day.  Seriously – it’s got to be better than a tired old pair of socks , tie or a singing mullet!

We all know that every guy who owns a motorbike dreams of owning a Harley but few can afford one, SO RENT ONE.

Or what about a fishing boat, a video camera to film that bbq (rented on www.rentiod.com of course) or even a sports car. How about a Porche convertable for the day at a lazy $400?

It’s all here on rentoid – a better and easy Fathers day gift.

Temporary needs

August 21, 2008

Be prepared to be blown away…. Seriously. It’s going to shock you… well kind of.

Pretty much all of our needs are temporary. We actually use our bed more than any other item we own. So what is our real usage of stuff we use much less often? When we break it down to “time available”, it’s quite surprising. I thought I’d start with our biggest expense – the car.

The average usage of cars is as follows:

10,000km per annum = 1.8% of time available

25,000km per annum = 4.7% of time available (average in Australia)

50,000km per annum = 9.4% of time available

* This means that for more than 90% of the time the car we own is idle. Which then means 2 things. We could either rent a car when we need one…. or even better rent out ours when we are not using it. Especially if it is a bit of a bomb! it’s an asset of real value just sitting there….

Imagine all the other idle assets you own which you could be making money from.
